Protecting the Wild In Africa

Kenyan Village

Kenyan Enkong U‘Narok Village Support

The Enkong U'Narok village, located in Kenya, are recipients of Love the Wilds financial support. As of January 10th of 2024, our support has gone towards the planting of trees of varying species to provide a sustainable food source of fruits and vegetables. The building of a greenhouse to help the growth of different trees and plants. As well as feeding the 180 people housed in the village for 9 months.

Education is one of the most important factors in creating a thriving community. That's why we are funding 25 members of the Enkong U'Narok community to attend secondary school. We are funding children and young adults who are aspirating to become teachers, educators, doctors, environmental scientists, animal scientists, and wildlife managers These students are going towards a goal, and Love the Wild is working to support them. You can learn more about each of the students in the CURRENT SCHOLARSHIPS below on this page.

The Well

The well has been the most ambitious project we have undertaken yet. While working with the village, we received a call that the village well had went dry. So the women of the village had to walk up to 8 miles a day to collect water for the village and its animals. Not only was this incredibly difficult for these women, it was also dangerous. By heading into the brush so often, they ran the risk of encountering dangerous wildlife. We know that people and animals cannot live without water, so we decided to help the village drill a well. This would support not only the villagers, but their cows and goats. Knowing this, we also chose to build a small culvert that would allow for direct water transport to the cattle trough. Unfortunately, this highlighted another problem. As soon as the new water source appeared, so did the elephants and other wild animals from the area.  We knew this was a problem so we worked to create another culvert that would lead into a freshwater pool. This would create another watering hole for the animals to use that would keep them farther away from the village. We also ultimately built a large watering and swimming hole so they elephants could swim in it after drinking fresh water from the pool.
