Join us in ensuring that wild lands and wildlife thrive and can be enjoyed by the next generation. Learn more at www.lovethewild.org. Let's Use Our Power Today to Change Tomorrow! JOIN OUR EFFORTS TO TEACH YOUTH AND ADULTS ALIKE HOW TO CO-EXIST WITH OUR NATURAL WORLD Our Mission is to teach children and adults alike how to learn from, love and protect the WILD. We do this through sponsoring unique and accessible educational programs and supporting conservation efforts with next the generation in mind. WHAT'S NEW AT THE FOUNDATION We continue to sponsor opportunities to educate students about environmental stewardship and make associated book donations – and as of late we have been hosting many virtual readings to classes! Recently, we donated Grizzly 399: The Story of a Remarkable Bear and A 'Tail' of Three Lions books for respective readings at elementary and middle schools of the Caldwell Schools in Idaho. We also conducted a reading around Earth Day and donated The Belize Trash Monster books to Elementary and Middle Schools in Miami that we were connected with through our partners at The Edge Foundation, and, we donated books for their Purple Room Project. You can listen to some of these readings on YouTube at the links below: https://youtu.be/_Ps7ufpGnnY https://youtu.be/sj98QBlWcxs In addition, books were also donated to our partners at Youth for Lions for a reading at an elementary school in South Africa. #YouthforLions is the youth ambassador program that is affiliated with our partners leading the Blood Lions campaign (see more on Blood Lions, below!) The youth program consists of driven young individuals who play an extremely important role with the youth around the world by spreading awareness about lion exploitation amongst their schools and communities. Lastly, we donated Grizzly 399: The Story of a Remarkable Bear books to all the schools with students who completed the Inspired Classroom project of creating a graphic novel related to Grizzly 399, the Superhero Bear: Grizzly 399 Challenge; we've had over 30 teams complete this challenge so far! We will be judging the winner of that challenge soon so stay tuned. If you are a student and would like to still participate individually or you are a teacher or parent and would like to register your class, there's still time and you can register here. PROTECT THE WILD: GETTING PLASTIC OUT OF OUR OCEANSJune 5th was World Environment Day and May 25th was International Plastic-Free Day! We miss seeing the enormous sculptures created by Angela Haseltine and the amazing team at The Washed Ashore Project during this annual celebration where we’d typically be exhibiting with other environmentally conscious entities in person. The above photo depicts a Washed Ashore's sculpture from 2019 that mesmerized us. Did you know The Washed Ashore Project uses students to help with the construction of these huge pieces? Support both ocean clean-up and a wonderful learning opportunity for students by making a donation today. On the note of plastic clean up and re-use, don’t forget our “upcycling” themed classroom challenge is still open for registration. This challenge teaches children to upcycle items into a project - an object of utility for animals or in honor of animals - instead of throwing items into the trash (or even recycling them). The challenge encourages students to think differently and creatively about what would otherwise be considered trash. Students who complete the challenge may receive a digital copy of the award-winning Green Kids Club book, The Belize Trash Monster. This book teaches children about keeping our beaches clean and being mindful of preventing trash and pollution in our oceans, especially when traveling as a visitor to tourist destinations. Both parent and educators can register for this free challenge using the button below. For questions, contact [email protected]. You can buy the The Belize Trash Monster book on our website, with proceeds going to both Love the Wild Foundation and Island Academy in Belize here. BREAKING NEWS: AN END TO LION FARMING We are thrilled about the news from our partners Ian Michler and the team from the Blood Lions Campaign! On May 6, 2021 South Africa declared they will end lion farming practices as summarized in this excerpt. There has been continuous Lion Farming in the country for many years. At the time our partners at Green Kids Club published their book, A 'Tail' of Three Lions in January 2021, there were and still are about 12,000 lions in lion farms. These lions eventually end up in canned hunts or else taken and used for medicinal purposes. Ian Michler and the Blood Lions Campaign led the charge with other organizations to help stop this horrific practice.
