What is Teton Science Schools?Teton Science Schools is an educational organization located in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. In their “Mountain Academy” they offer Pre-K to 12th grade classes.
However, they also offer a variety of programs for schools and organizations (like Love the Wild Foundation) to experience their hands-on learning style. These programs have a large focus on teaching students about environmental science topics especially the ecosystem of Yellowstone and Teton National Park utilizing the space around them by taking students out into the field. 2025 Trip
|
On June 14- 17th, we had 15 students attend Teton Science Schools in Jackson, WY. Our organization partnered with Life University to sponsor these students' trips to learn about nature and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. 7 students came from CA, 7 from ID, and 1 from NC. For many of these students, it was their first time in the Tetons! During their time, they were able to hike 1-2 miles, and then search for macroinvertebrates in the streams while using keys to identify what they had found. Had a wolf mediation program teaching about the 5 major types of people concerned with the grey wolves in Montana. The next day was all canoeing, which was brand new to most of the group and a fan favorite! In the evening, they went on a wildlife drive where they saw bison, elk, deer, and a variety of bird species. To end their time before leaving, the students went out and pulled an invasive species called "cheatgrass". In just 40 minutes of weed pulling, the students managed to pull 102.59 lbs of cheatgrass! We estimate their stewardship saved TSS from having a hundred thousand plus new growths of this invasive species! |
